    We are a team of 8 physicians practicing family medicine in the beautiful Haliburton and Minden area. We provide comprehensive primary care to enrolled patients of the FHO as well as affiliated, unaffiliated and visitor patients on a fee-for-service basis. We have an urgent need for 5 more primary care physicians.

    Looking for physicians who are interested in working with a supportive and collaborative team

    Teaching site with a full rotation of residents from Queen’s, U of T, uOttawa and others

    Affiliated and work collaboratively with allied health professionals (HHFHT) including: RNs, Dietician, Social Worker, NP, and Chiropodist to ensure patients receive the right care from the right professional

    Extensive business and administrative support for referrals, scheduling and billing so you can focus on your patients!

    EMR: Telus PS

    Current roster is 10,300 patients with 1,450 on the waiting list. There are thousands of local residents without a family doctor so you can be as busy as you’d like your practice to be.

    Compensation is based on a blended capitation model as a physician belonging to a FHO with a competitive split. 70/30 split the first year and then we move into the cost sharing arrangement as a shareholder.  In that arrangement physicians share in the earnings which ends up being a range of overhead between 26 % and 31%.

    Several of our physicians also staff our local ER, in-patients, LTC and palliative patients. You have the option to structure your practice as you choose.

    Average daily income generated is $1800-2500 CDN, calculated after overhead. Taxes are deducted through your personal accountant.

    Benefits package available through SunLife.  Entitled to four weeks of vacation/year but very flexible if more is needed.

     

    Financial Incentives for Full-Time Practice

    • FLEXIBLE Return of Service through The County of Haliburton; $25,000 per year for 2-year commitment
    • Payable for up to 6 years; total $150,000. This can start during medical training or be paid in advance of practice start date
    • Relocation Reimbursement: $15,000 when relocating to Haliburton County for full-time practice
    • Northern Rural Recruitment and Retention Program (NRRR); $97,748 payable over four years
    • Canada Student Loan Forgiveness; $60,000 payable over 5 years
     

    Emergency Room Physician

    The Haliburton ER is part of a busy rural community hospital averaging 20,000 visits/year. Most visits are CTAS 3 or 4 with several CTAS 2 and a few CTAS 1 cases. 50-80 patient/24 hours increasing to 90-100/day in summer months.

    We provide 24 hours/7day per week of emergency care. We have two fully equipped trauma rooms, three observation stretchers, three exam rooms, ISO room, procedure room, fast track room with 5 in-progress chairs and an x-ray department.

    We have onsite CT, CT Mammography, Ultrasound and Echocardiography. Equipment includes a portable ultrasound and Glide scope.

    Shifts are 08:00-18:00, 18:00-08:00 with an overlap shift of 12:00-20:00.  Full-time practice is 12 shifts/month.

    Our helipad is used regularly by air ambulances. There are no specialists in town however there is a strong relationship with referral centres and specialists Peterborough, Lindsay, Bracebridge and Huntsville. Physicians are well supported by a strong nursing team.

    Compensation is based on the Alternative Payment Plan model through an Alternative Funding Agreement (AFA); $250/hr

    There is an Urgent Care Clinic operating 7 days/week staffed by a NP and RPN. We also have a Nursing Clinic to treat patients with IV therapy and catheterization needs.

     

    Hospitalist

    15 in-patient beds (two are palliative beds). No ICU, Anesthesia, RT or OB.  Shifts are Mon-Sun 8am-6pm

    Across the Island, there are 17 Patient Medical Home locations. Teams of physicians, nurse practitioners, dietitians, social workers, nurses, diabetes educators and other health professionals work together to provide comprehensive, collaborative care to patients, delivering full-scope family medicine. 

    Remuneration: 

    • Comprehensive Compensation: Benefit from a robust compensation package that values your contribution.  

    • Remuneration as a Family Physician ranges from $113.51 - $121.44 per hour (depending on years of practice).  

    • Locum physicians providing 6 months or more of services, are eligible for the Blended Payment which is 31% of your shadow billings; the shadow billings payment is paid quarterly.   

    • Rural Family Medicine Opportunities:  

    • Community Hospital O’Leary and Souris Hospital: Physicians providing hospital-based services (in-patient rounding), on-call and clinic-based services for the afternoon are eligible for a daily family medicine rate.  

    • Full day – Rounding AM, Clinic PM, 24hr on-call $1,900 (inclusive of on-call retainer)    

    • Half day – Rounding only + 24hr on-call $1,400 for in-patient rounds (inclusive of on-call retainer)  

    • On Call only – FFS The daily rate is inclusive of on-call retainer.  

    Incentives: 

    Short-Term Locum (1-10 days worked per month) 

    • Reimbursement of the MCC-AMR Application Fee and PEI Application Fee  

    • Reimbursement of the cost of locum license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of PEI.  

    • Coverage of registration fees with the Medical Society of PEI.  

    • Locums coming from out of province and who are not Island residents are also eligible for the following:  

    • Coverage of accommodation during the length of the locum stay on Prince Edward Island, up to a maximum of $300 per night with receipts or $200 per night without receipts.  

    • $100 per day living expense stipend will be provided for the days worked during the locum period.  

    • Paid actual travel time ($50/hour) from home province to Prince Edward Island and return will be covered.  

    • Cost of one return travel to Prince Edward Island based on an economy airfare to a maximum of $2,000. If traveling by car, mileage will be reimbursed as determined by PEI Treasury Board Policy and bridge and road tolls reimbursed with submission of receipts. Reimbursement for travel by car is not to exceed the cost of economy airfare.  

    • Coverage of car rental up to $1400 per week with receipts. 

     

    Long-Term Locums (Working at least 10 days a month for no less than 6 months with a defined start and end date) 

     

    • Reimbursement of the MCC-AMR Application Fee and PEI Application Fee costs with Physicians Apply;  

    • Reimbursement of cost of license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of PEI.  

    • Coverage of dues with Medical Society of PEI. Locums coming from out of province and who are not Island residents are also eligible for the following:

    • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of PEI (link is external); 

    • Appointment to the Health PEI Medical Staff and appropriate privileging; 

    • CFPC physicians will be given priority; and 

    • Work experience preferable.

    • Kings County Memorial Hospital (KCMH) is a 16,000 annual patient visit, 12-hour Rural Emergency Department. Located in the town of Montague, Kings County.  

    • Patient registration occurs between 8AM and 8PM, Monday to Friday and on Saturdays the ED is open from 8AM-4PM (registration closes at 1PM) 

    • Current shifts are 8-4PM and 1-9PM and  

    • Any additional hours worked are paid;  

    • Third shift (1-9PM) now added to the schedule. 

    • Lab and x ray available onsite; 

    • CT and ultrasound are referred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown;  

    • Traumas, etc. bypass to larger hospital;  

    • Specialist support offsite. 

     

    • Western Hospital (WH) is a 10,700 annual patient visit, 12-hour Rural Emergency Department. Located in the town of Alberton, West Prince County. Option to provide overnight inpatient coverage at WH, additional on-call stipend and FFS billings if called in. Overnight on-call room available for inpatient physician.  

    • Patient registration occurs between 8AM and 8PM 

    • Single shift;  

    • Any additional hours worked are paid;   

    • Lab and x ray available onsite;  

    • CT and ultrasound are referred to Prince County Hospital, Summerside;  

    • Traumas, etc. bypass to larger hospital;  

    • Specialist support offsite.

    • Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) is a 40,000 annual patient visit, 24-hour Emergency Department. Located in the capital city of Charlottetown, Queens County.  

    • Referral centre for the province;    

    • 8 shifts per day; 9-hour shifts;   

    • Locums not expected to cover night shifts;   

    • 24/7 lab, X-ray, CT and Ultrasound available (CT and Ultrasound call in during evening and night);   

    • Comprehensive medical and surgical support onsite;   

    • More specialized care referred offsite.  

     

    • Prince County Hospital (PCH) is a 24,000 annual patient visit, 24-hour emergency department. Located in Summerside, Prince County.  

    • Regional referral centre;  

    • 6 shifts per day; 8-hour shifts;  

    • Locums not expected to cover night shifts;  

    • 24/7 lab, X-ray, CT and Ultrasound davailable (CT and Ultrasound call in during evening and night);  

    • Selected specialist consultation available 24/7 onsite:  

    • Internal medicine 

    • General surgery 

    • Obstetrics / Gynecology  

    • Anesthesia 

    Rural and Remote Incentive:  

    • Applicable to Kings County Memorial Hospital and Western Hospital shifts only.  

    • For Medical Affairs identified shifts (minimum of 6 hours) between September 1, 2024 – January 5, 2025, an additional $600 per shift will be paid.  

    • If a physician works more than three (3) shifts per month between September 1, 2024 – January 5, 2025, the incentive increases to $800 per shift.  

     

    Travel and Accommodation Reimbursement: 

     Short-Term Locum (1-10 days worked per month)  

    • Locums coming from out of province (not Island residents) are also eligible for the following:   

    • Coverage of hotel accommodations during the length of the locum stay on Prince Edward Island, up to a maximum of $300 per night;   

    • $100 per day living expense stipend will be provided for the days worked during the locum period;   

    • Paid actual travel time ($50/hour) from home province to Prince Edward Island and return will be covered;   

    • Cost of one return travel to Prince Edward Island based on an economy airfare to a maximum of $2,000. If traveling by car, mileage will be reimbursed as determined by PEI Treasury Board Policy and tolls (bridge and road) reimbursed with submission of receipts. Reimbursement for travel by car is not to exceed the cost of economy airfare;   

    • Coverage of car rental up to $1400 per week.  

    • Reimbursement of:   

    • MCC-AMR Application Fee and PEI Application Fee;   

    • Locum license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of PEI;   

    • Registration fees with the Medical Society of PEI;   

      

    Long-Term Locums (Working at least 10 days a month for no less than 6 months with a defined start and end date)  

    • Locums coming from out of province (not Island residents) are also eligible for the following:   

    • Accommodations: 10 + days coverage per month – up to $5000 per month with receipts;   

    • $50 per day living expense stipend will be provided for the days worked during the locum period;  

    • Paid actual travel time ($50/hour) from home province to Prince Edward Island and return will be covered;  

    • Cost of one return travel to Prince Edward Island based on an economy airfare to a maximum of $2,000 with receipts. If traveling by car, mileage will be reimbursed as determined by PEI Treasury Board Policy and tolls (bridge and road) reimbursed with submission of receipts.      Certifications and Requirements: 

    • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of PEI; 

    • Eligibility for appointment to the Health PEI Medical Staff and appropriate privileging; and 

    • FRCP(EM), CFPC (EM), experience preferred.
